Catch of the Day: The Case of the Helpless Humpbacks Paperback – October 1, 1997 by Emily Lloyd

The members of the Kinetic City Super Crew are called in to investigate when whales are getting caught in fishing nets

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6-This time around, the Kinetic City Super Crew is attempting to prevent whales from drowning off the coast of Nova Scotia. They encounter some setbacks in their crusade, including unsympathetic, sometimes threatening fishermen and their own unsuccessful schemes to discourage the whales from accidentally swimming into the fishing nets. With the help of Claude Cloulez, former deep-sea explorer and current captain of a fishing boat, and marine biologist Roberta Marley, the youngsters not only discover a thing or two about whales but also find a way to solve the problem. Based on a children's radio show, the adventures in this series have their roots in science. In this one, readers learn much about whales and their plight. With humorous characters, especially the "clueless" Cloulez, and slapstick dialogue, this is a lighthearted look at a serious problem that conservationists and fishermen face. Sure to educate while it entertains.
