Masterpieces Of Mystery - The Golden Age II Hardcover – January 1, 1977

selected by Ellery Queen

"This is one of four or five volumes and it is another superb collection of classic mystery stories chosen by the cousins from Brooklyn who wrote under the name of Ellery Queen. The last story is theirs and a fine one, but by no means the only great mystery story.

Other authors include Agatha Christie, Edgar Wallace (wrote the screenplay for the original King Kong), Leslie Charteris (Simon Templar "Saint" stories); Dorothy Sayers (Lord Peter); the unforgettable Dashiell Hammett and a surprisingly good one by A.A. Milne of Winnie the Pooh fame, which makes me want to go out and buy every mystery written by Milne. There are nine stories in all and I have not mentioned every mystery but they are consistently good whether one knows the author or not.

Each story is prefaced by a brief biography of the author and I found these blurbs as interesting as some of the stories.

Murder mystery aficionados will want to get this book, but you will have to haunt used book stores, flea markets and eBay to find them because they are out of print." - Good Reads Review
