Papa Zach by Melanie Wegener - 2006 Paperback
Born in 1920, Zachary Loozis grew up in the South Bronx, after older sister Claire. He befriended Sam the Iceman and peer David Sachs, who was one of thousands who suffered from Polio. Zach spent days playing handball with "the guys".
He was a good kid - quiet at school - yet still managed to be mischievous. He was drafted in World War II and was assigned to company "A" - the military police. In Italy, Zach developed his passion for Italian culture. Returning to New York, he met Florence on a blind date and fell in love. During the year that he got married, Zach became a Certified Public Accountant. He developed relationships with clients that lasted throughout generations. Zach became a fantastic father to Matthew and Beverly and shared with them his fervor for nature and music. In 1989, he became a grandfather when Bevy gave birth to Melanie, then to Pam. Not long after, Cara - Matt and Lisa's daughter was born. In 1998 Zach became paralyzed from the waist down, the cause unknown. However, he continued to radiate his enthusiasm and optimism.
Papa Zach Chronicles Zachary Loozis' life, and gives proof that everyday people can be fabulous. This book is a small gift to Zach himself, as a thank you for his inspirational character. It is simply a token of genuine gratitude.
