Maud hazeltine chaplin, Associate Dean of the College, was the president of College Government in 1956, received the ph.d. In intellectual history at Brandeis University, and returned to Wellesley in 1968 as an assistant professor of History and a class dean and then was named Dean of Studies. As an undergraduate she knew Wellesley in the 19505, as a class dean she was centrally involved in students' concerns in the late 19605 and the 19705, and as an historian she relished researching the early days of the College and writing about students then and now. While on leave from Wellesley she held a Radcliffe Institute Fellowship, and on her return on January 1, 1975, she assumed the new position Of Associ ate Dean.
